Down Wind Foiling

In 2024, 80 places will be awarded on the basis of selection. Participants in the 2023 French Open have already been pre-selected. Selection based on results from an official competition or GPS track of at least 10 km.

Competition rules

  • Starting is exclusively with a single SUP Race paddle.
  • On the way back to the boat, riders can choose between 2 airplanes, 1 mast and a board, in order to select the equipment best suited to the weather conditions.
  • Each participant is responsible for his or her own safety equipment. A leash and 50N/CE lifejacket must be worn, along with a phone in a waterproof pouch. The organizer may add a hand-held light or any other individual safety device he deems necessary.

Surf Foiling

This year 2024, 40 places will be awarded on selection:
26 places are awarded via a selection process open to all (France and International) as a result of an official competition with full rankings and/or a video including at least 2 rights and 2 lefts with, if possible, a connection between two waves.
4 places are allocated to the Crozon Foil Festival Trials on June 1 and 2.
10 places are reserved for the Fédération Française de Surf national ranking.

Competition rules

  • The surfer will have to execute radical, controlled maneuvers in the most critical section of the wave with speed, control and flow to maximize his or her scoring potential. Innovative and evolutionary surfing, as well as variety in the technical repertoire (maneuvers), should be taken into account when rewarding waves surfed. The surfer who respects these criteria, displaying the highest degree of difficulty and commitment on the waves, will be awarded the highest scores”.
  • The angle of attack is an easily identifiable element that will help to evaluate the risk-taking of trajectories and the technical difficulty of maneuvers.
  • The judges will pay particular attention to control and flow, as the fluidity of movements and sequences are part of the evaluation.

Dockstart Pumping

This year (2024), 40 places will be awarded on a selection basis. Selection on the basis of results in an official competition or GPS course of at least 300 meters in pumping flat water/no wind.

Competition rules

  • Approx. 200-meter course starting from a catways mooring arm with a gate (2 red buoys) allowing you to choose a right or left turn and return to a green buoy on a left turn before crossing the finish line.
  • All breaks will be made on the spot with no time indications.
  • For each heat, a draw will be held for the starting line.
  • In all, we’ll have 8 qualifying heats with 5 boats, the first in 1/4 – 8 repechage heats with 4 boats, the first in 1/4 – 1/4 final with 4 boats, the first 2 in 1/2 final – 1/2 final with 4 boats, the first 2 in final and a final with 4 boats.

Location

The Crozon peninsula is located at the westernmost tip of Brittany. It forms the central ridge of the trident that marks the end of the Breton peninsula, and is fully encompassed by the Armorique Regional Nature Park.

Surrounded by the sea, the peninsula is a destination for foil sailors of all horizons, thanks to its idyllic spots. Its climate and superb wild landscapes offer magnificent sensations on the water. Today, it’s one of the best places in the world to practice downwind foiling and/or paddling.
